Emerald Maiden of the Sorrowful Star

Concept: Chosen of Secrets, savant and first-age scholar

Philosophy:

Background: 30 years ago, a child was left on the doorstep of an outpost the All-Seeing Eye. Which doorstep and who did the leaving is unclear, but she was taken in and raised by numerous agents in-between their missions. She came with no name or clues of any kind, but was wrapped in soft emerald-green blanket, so they called her Emma. Those agents, and some of their children (many of whom later followed their parents into the spying business) became her family. She was a natural spy and sneak, and used it to her advantage to study the parts of the All-Seeing Eye's extensive collection of captured books and artifacts that would have been prohibited to normal agents. Her fascination with the forbidden lore of the past made her an expert in the lore of the First Age even before she exalted.

Just before she Exalted, Emma was suddenly and unexpectedly transferred from the headquarters of the Eye to a remote outpost in the North. Shortly afterward, it became clear that the transfer was arranged to better explain her absence and subsequent induction into the Forbidding Manse of Ivy. While she was in training, the Arcane Fate began to break apart her artificial family. Makara, a young agent of the Eye with whom she had been plotting a way out of his arranged Dynastic marriage, wrote her weekly letters for the first two seasons of her exile. She wrote back when she could, but there was little she could say about her new life. After that, there was nothing for a year---until an official announcement of the marriage of Makara to *dynast* Amelia was forwarded to her mailbox in Heaven. Broken-hearted and alone, she threw herself into the workings of the Bureaucracy of Heaven---joining conventions, volunteering for dangerous or tedious missions---anything to keep busy enough to not notice the empty places that should have been filled by family and friends. Her training-circle are the closest thing to friends she has ever had, and she values their acquaintance and companionship, even though they disagree frequently.
